Prior to the match, four buses carrying Willem II supporters arrived at the visitor section of the Dordrecht stadium. The buses were opened one by one to ensure a smooth flow of supporters. The supporters in the last bus did not want to wait for the doors to open and exited the coach through an emergency exit at the back. When the bus driver, a 63-year-old retired man from Wagenberg, attempted to address the situation, he was hit in the head with a glass bottle. He was treated on-site for his injuries and is doing well under the circumstances.
The suspect was arrested thanks to a witness. He was presented to the examining magistrate on Friday, May 23, who ruled that he may await his trial in freedom under strict conditions. He is prohibited from coming near the Willem II stadium and the supporters café and has received a nationwide ban on attending football matches. He is also not allowed to consume alcohol. The man is currently under strict supervision by the Netherlands Probation Service, which monitors compliance with the imposed conditions. If the Tilburg resident fails to comply, he will be arrested and placed back in jail.
