The man was caught red-handed after stealing jewelry, watches, and a sum of money from a house on Molenstraat in Oudewater.
The resident was not home when a neighbor noticed suspicious movements inside the house around 12:30 PM. Shortly after, the alarm went off. The suspect had searched the entire house and then fled on foot. Several neighbors did not hesitate and chased after him. The suspect tried to hide in the bushes, but the neighbors found him there.
When officers arrived at the scene, they arrested the man. The stolen jewelry and other items were found with him and have since been returned to the owner.
