Vermeer on his arrival: To contribute to the safety of the Netherlands at the heart of society. This social relevance is the main reason for me to start working at the police. As a new member of the corps leadership, I want to invest in the polices ability to respond quickly and adequately to changing external circumstances. For this, the digital transformation must be accelerated, and innovative technology must be widely deployed. This requires new methods, digital skills, digital culture, and leadership. A reliable, stable, and flexible foundation in ICT must contribute to the necessary agility for digital transformation. These are the main priorities in my new role, and I will work on them with full conviction, together with my colleagues.
Long career in healthcare
Simon Vermeer started his career as an officer in the Royal Netherlands Army and has extensive experience in management with a clear emphasis on information provision, technology, and innovation. In his current role as CIO of the Erasmus Medical Center, he works on the digital strategy and thus on the digital transformation of this organization. He is also part of the program management team for major construction programs within the Erasmus Medical Center, including the construction of the new hospital that was put into use in 2018 and the planning of the new Sophia Childrens Hospital. In addition to his current role at the Erasmus Medical Center, Simon is a supervisor at the Haga Hospital. Simon has strong connections both content-wise and organizationally due to his involvement in various national files in healthcare regarding data availability, research IT, and AI developments. Simon Vermeer (58 years) is married and has three children.
Balance between people and technology
Corps chief Janny Knol on the arrival of Simon Vermeer: Simon knows from his experience the necessity of accelerating digital transformation and improving information provision, technology, and innovation. The police are investing in their ability to be (digitally) agile, and from his background, Simon has a broad network in the digital domain. I look forward to working with Simon towards a police force that wants to be a leading example by 2030 of an organization where a good balance exists between people and technology, aligned with society. I have every confidence that Simon can make an important contribution to that.
Experience and network
Chair of the COR, Loes Thissen: As COR, we are pleased with the arrival of Simon Vermeer as a new member of the corps leadership. While realizing that he will need time to get to know the police and its partners within the criminal justice chain. With the support of all colleagues, we are convinced that with his experience and network he can make a good contribution to the further development of the corps, with an emphasis on digital transformation and innovation.
