The police received a report of an armed man on Pastoor Jutenlaan around 03:30 that night. According to the reporter, an unknown man approached a group of arguing youths. He allegedly asked the youths to leave and suddenly pulled a weapon from his pocket. Both the youths and the man then fled.

Ten minutes later
Officers put on a bulletproof vest and immediately began a search operation. About ten minutes later, they saw a man matching the description provided by the reporter. He attempted to enter an apartment building, but no one let him in at that time.

The officers aimed their firearms at the suspect and repeatedly shouted for him to show his hands. The man ignored the orders and walked away. The officers saw him reaching for his weapon, at which point one of them fired a warning shot. The suspect ducked away and dropped his weapon.

Empty Starter Pistol
The suspect, a 46-year-old man from Bergen op Zoom, was arrested and handcuffed. It later turned out that the firearm was a starter pistol. The reason the man carried this is still unclear. The police are conducting further investigation.
