Shortly after midnight, police stopped a vehicle near Ede for a traffic check. During the check, a large amount of drugs was found in the car. The driver, a 43-year-old man from Lienden, was arrested and taken to the station for questioning.
This drug seizure was the reason to also search the suspects home in Lienden. In the home, over 50 kilos of heavy, illegal fireworks were found, including cobras and shells. Additionally, a large quantity of soft and hard drugs was again found in the home. The three people present in the house were arrested on suspicion of possession/trade of drugs and possession of illegal fireworks. They include two men aged 31 and 35 from Lienden and a 26-year-old woman from Tiel. The follow-up investigation into the background of this find and those involved is ongoing.
Dangers and Risks of Fireworks
Storing fireworks in a home, garage, or shed creates unsafe situations for the neighborhood. Residents risk that the fireworks might explode, causing damage and even injuries. Possession or storage of illegal fireworks in a home is punishable by law. Fireworks with explosive power are used for attacks and threats. It is our duty as police to detect and tackle the trade in illegal fireworks – whether purchased abroad or not.
