After several confrontations between groups of young people and calls for new confrontations via social media, the Anton de Komplein and its immediate surroundings in Amsterdam-Zuidoost were designated as a security risk area on the evening of May 5 from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM. This measure meant that the police were allowed to conduct preventive searches, including for the presence of weapons. A liberation festival was taking place in the square. In total, 74 searches were conducted, and two knives were found. These were surrendered. The purpose of preventive searches is to prevent further confrontations and incidents and to ensure the safety of those present and local residents. The two suspects, 17-year-old Amsterdam residents, have been detained for further investigation.
