In recent months, the police received multiple reports of drug trafficking in Zutphen and its surroundings via Meld Misdaad Anoniem. The reports prompted the continuation of the investigation, which ultimately led to the action day on Wednesday, April 9. Two men from Zutphen (48 and 50 years old) and a man without a fixed residence (22 years old) were arrested as suspects.
Seizures
During the searches, among other things, a large amount of drugs, cash, several air guns, and firearm-like objects were found and seized. Additionally, phones and other digital storage devices were seized for further investigation.
Consequences of Drug Trafficking
Drug trafficking has significant consequences for society. The living environment deteriorates. Team leader Judith ter Horst: “We see many reports of nuisance, and drug trafficking often goes hand in hand with threats, extortion, and violence. Young people are recruited at a young age to participate, and drug addiction has severe consequences for the user and their surroundings. Furthermore, drug criminals profit from millions in profits while society bears the consequences and damages. Therefore, confiscating criminal assets is an important part of the fight against organized crime.”
