In the early morning of Thursday, August 28, the police received a report of a burglary alarm at a convenience and tobacco shop on Cypresstraat at 04:51. Two suspects were spotted on the scene leaving the area on foot with full bags. This is the second time in a short period that the shopkeeper has fallen victim to a burglary.

Innovative Measure
Since tobacco shops are often targets of ram-raids and burglaries, the retail formula, together with the Center for Crime Prevention and Safety (CCV), has looked into additional security measures. Recently, they started an innovative pilot aimed at contributing to the faster detection of suspects.

Thanks to this measure and the close cooperation between the police and the shopkeeper, the suspects were arrested that same morning in Oosterhout. Here, officers found a significant amount of tobacco products, presumably from the burglary. Investigations will need to determine whether these suspects are also guilty of the earlier burglary this month.

Suspects
The suspects, a 51-year-old man from Bergen op Zoom and a 44-year-old man from Oosterhout, have been taken to the police station for questioning. The police continue the investigation.
