On Monday, April 21, the GPS alarm of a decoy bicycle went off at the police station. The bicycle was placed in the station area of Heerhugowaard. This bicycle contains a transmitter, so the officers from Heerhugowaard could track the bicycle accurately. At shopping center Middenwaard, two men aged 47, one from Hollands Kroon and the other from Den Helder, were arrested. The investigation is ongoing. 

Decoy Methods

The police often use decoy methods. However, permission from the public prosecutor is always required. It is assessed whether there is no question of entrapment. A decoy bicycle is often used in an area where multiple bicycle thefts have occurred. The models often change, and separate transmitters are also placed in components such as batteries.
