Prevent bicycle theft

The easiest way to greatly reduce the risk of bicycle theft is to lock your bike properly. Preferably use two locks. In practice, many bicycles are not properly locked and are therefore vulnerable to theft. Try to park your bike as much as possible in a supervised bicycle parking facility. If this is not possible, park the bike in sight and preferably under a streetlight in the evening. If the bike is placed in a shed or garage, use locks there as well. If the bike has a removable screen/bike computer, take it inside, as well as the key to the battery. If the bike has a frame number, always note it down. This number is unique to the bike and helps with any report. It is often required for insurance purposes. This number is usually on the proof of ownership that the bike dealer provides.

Report bicycle theft

If your bike, cargo bike, or display has been stolen, always report it. Provide as much information as possible in the report, such as brand, frame number, type, color, or other distinctive features; this makes returning it to the rightful owner easier. Increasingly, bicycles registered in the bicycle theft register are being tracked down.

Report suspicious situations

If you notice a suspicious situation such as bicycle theft, call 112 immediately. Calling 112 is intended for emergencies. Not only for life-threatening situations but also when witnessing a crime or the preparation of a burglary or theft.
