After the man left the school, they approached him. He did not respond at all, he immediately got into his car and started it. The enforcement officer was standing to the left front of the car at that moment and felt the car hit him and drive away, still in the opposite direction.

The enforcement officer did not sustain any injuries from this action, although he did file a report of attempted aggravated assault against an enforcement officer. The suspect, a 35-year-old man from Oudorp, was arrested on Thursday evening. He is being interrogated by the police today.

Mayor Poorter:

“Violence against enforcement officers is unacceptable. I am really angry about it. Our enforcement officers are there to ensure our safety. This officer was there for the safety of children. Why would you use violence against that? And what example does that set for children? When people who dedicate themselves to our safety become victims of aggression and violence, it affects us all. Because if those who ensure our safety are not safe themselves, something fundamental is under threat.

In Dijk en Waard, we stand firmly behind our enforcement officers. They play an important role in our neighborhoods, on the streets, and at events. They deserve respect, protection, and appreciation. Violence against them is not just an attack on a person, but on the values of our society. I urge everyone: let’s work together to ensure a safe environment – for our children, for our enforcement officers, for each other.

What does violence against employees with a public task mean?

In addition to police officers, other employees with a public task also face aggression and violence, such as ambulance and fire service personnel, enforcement officers, tram conductors, bus drivers, teachers, or tax inspectors. Police and justice apply the same approach here: reports are always recorded, perpetrators are prioritized by the Public Prosecution Service, and a threefold higher sentence can be demanded against the perpetrators.
