Information in the investigation led to the police entering a property on Stationsstraat on Monday morning. Inside the property, the police discovered a drug lab. It is a cocaine washing facility.
Two arrests
During the search, a 57-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman from Scheemda were arrested. They are in custody and being interrogated about their role and involvement in the cocaine washing facility. Both suspects are under restrictions, meaning they cannot contact the outside world, except for their lawyer.
Dismantling
The National Facility for Dismantling (LFO) conducted an investigation in the property and safely dismantled the drug lab. The LFO is deployed when chemical substances pose a threat to the environment. There is currently no danger to the immediate surroundings.
The police investigation continues. Because the suspects are under restrictions and to avoid disturbing the ongoing police investigation, the police cannot share more information at this time.
Signals of a drug lab
Drug labs are often recognizable by a chemical smell, darkened windows, and the regular arrival and departure of delivery vans. A drug lab involves working with chemical substances, and there is a high risk that these chemicals can explode and cause fires. Therefore, a drug lab is life-threatening, not only for people in the lab but also for residents nearby.
