The first seizure occurred on June 26, when a 53-year-old man from Apeldoorn was arrested in Ede. He was found with nearly sixty kilos of cocaine. In the follow-up investigation, the police arrived in Gorinchem on July 8. There, nearly 1600 kilos of cocaine were found and seized in two vehicles. Three men aged 22, 37, and 54 from Rotterdam were arrested on the spot. Searches took place at a location in Gorinchem and another in Lelystad.

High Priority

For both the police and the Public Prosecution Service (OM), cases like this are of high priority. The (large-scale) trade in narcotics has enormous and disruptive effects on society and is often accompanied by violence, extortion, and even executions. Additionally, consider the societal consequences of addiction for the addicts and their surroundings, the deterioration of the living environment, and undermining (criminal money from the underworld that is invested in the upper world).

The suspects are suspected of intentionally possessing a large quantity of narcotics. More arrests are not ruled out.

Reporting Pays Off

If you suspect drug crime in your area, always report it to the police via politie.nl or 0900-8844. It is also possible to report anonymously to Meld Misdaad Anoniem via 0800-7000 or meldmisdaadanoniem.nl. A tip is only forwarded to the police when it can no longer be traced back to you as the reporter. On houdmisdaaduitjebuurt.nl, a lot of information can be found about suspicious signals. No matter how small it may seem; share it with the police.
