Shortly after 4:15 AM, the police received a report that a loud bang was heard in a porch on Jekerstraat. Upon arrival, it turned out that an explosion had occurred, after which a fire had started. During the explosion, the wooden boards of the trim were damaged from the previous explosion, but no one was injured. The police cordoned off the area as a precaution. Forensic experts conducted an investigation at the site.
A thorough search in the area unfortunately did not lead to any arrests. However, according to witnesses, a suspect dressed in black ran away in the direction of Maasstraat after the explosion. Five nights earlier, around 2:20 AM, there was also an explosion at the same porch, causing damage to the facade of the building.
Investigations have confirmed that the suspect stood around the porch for some time before the explosion and was then approached by a passing man wearing a cap. The police would like to get in touch with that specific witness. Residents with camera footage are also requested to come forward. Any information that can help the investigation is welcome. Explosions
The safety region of Amsterdam-Amstelland has many incidents involving explosive devices. This is concerning, as the danger to entrepreneurs, residents, passersby, and emergency responders on site is understandably high. Heavy illegal fireworks, jerrycans with flammable liquid, or homemade explosives do not belong in public spaces - where people work and live - and create life-threatening situations. This must stop. The police are working hard to track down suspects involved in this form of excessive violence. This has already led to multiple arrests, convictions, and significant prison sentences. However, to track down the perpetrators, the police need the support of local residents. They know their neighborhood best. Also, if something seems off in the streetscape, they are the first to notice. Passing information to the police is therefore crucial.
