When a car was stopped at Olivierplaats, officers found as many as 10 mortar bombs. This prompted a search of the drivers home. Once there, four suspects were arrested who may have been involved in trading illegal fireworks. In total, 165 kilos of the heaviest category of illegal fireworks and several thousand euros were seized. Two of the five suspects remain in custody at least until the New Year.
On Tuesday, December 29, the police also seized approximately 100 kilos of illegal (heavy) fireworks in Utrecht.
