Action is Urgently Needed

Every day, people fall victim to crime that takes place online. For example, from phishing emails, WhatsApp fraud, or ransomware. In 2023, it affected 2.3 million Dutch people. Thats 6,400 victims per day! And thats probably just the tip of the iceberg, as only two out of ten victims actually file a report.

To make the residents of Central Netherlands, such as young people, less digitally skilled individuals, the elderly, or those with low literacy, as well as small and medium-sized enterprises more resilient against this type of online crime, the regional action day Really Not Today was organized on Wednesday, September 10. The action day is an initiative of the police in Central Netherlands, the Platform Safe Entrepreneurship Central Netherlands, and the Safety Coalition of Central Netherlands. Various companies, schools, associations, municipalities, and organizations participated and organized an action in the neighborhood.

From Police Briefings to Gaming with the Police

Police officers from each basic team from the entire region participated in the action day. Various meetings were organized in Central Netherlands. For example, in a nursing home in Almere, where neighborhood officers provided information about scams and trickery. Flyers were also distributed in various shopping centers, such as in Vianen and Leidsche Rijn. For the youth, there was also plenty to do, such as gaming with the police in Rhenen, Amersfoort, and Wijk bij Duurstede.

Next Regional Action Day in Northern Netherlands

In a relay format, the Northern Netherlands unit will take over. On October 6, the action day Really Not Today will be organized there. The goal is to make a difference not only today but also in the coming weeks, months, and years together. Police, government, (social) organizations, and residents join forces against online crime that can affect everyone.
