Risks
The production of synthetic drugs is not only illegal but also carries significant risks. Acids and highly flammable solvents are used during production. The costs of clearing a drug lab and disposing of waste are paid with taxpayers money. Synthetic drug production is often controlled by serious criminals. Growers and lab workers increasingly fall victim to violent crimes and rip deals. Not only the perpetrators are at risk, but you are too. Criminals do not hesitate to use violence, creating unsafe situations. Chemical waste from drug labs poses an environmental threat and can cause burns.
How to recognize a drug lab and what to do?
Drug labs can be located anywhere; in rural areas or big cities, in business premises, farm sheds, houses, garages, or apartment buildings.
- A drug lab smells strongly of chemicals, such as solvents (acetone).
- To prevent the smell from escaping outside, cracks of unused windows and doors are often sealed, for example with foam sealant.
- Exhaust systems with carbon filters often vent air through the roof.
- Drug labs are often near factories or farms that also smell (manure odor), which masks the drug lab smell.
- If you discover a drug lab, leave immediately.
- Put yourself in safety. Do not assume you are safe if you do not smell chemicals. There is always a risk of toxic substances, explosion, or fire.
- Call the police at 112, but do so from a safe distance. You can also always call Crime Stoppers at 0800-7000.
