In total, dozens of phones, mainly from the brands Apple and Samsung, were fraudulently obtained. The phones were ordered by individuals from telecom providers and delivered to various package points across the country. The four fraudsters managed to find out where and under which name the phones were delivered to the package points. Using false identity documents and pickup codes, the fraudsters picked up the packages behind the backs of the rightful owners. The suspects traveled across the country and picked up multiple phones in one day.
The cases came to light when the rightful owners wanted to pick up their package, only to hear that it had already been picked up. Surveillance footage showed who had actually collected the packages. The detectives initiated an investigation into these suspects. They were arrested in early June. During the arrest of one of the suspects, 12 mobile phones were found. These mobile phones were, of course, seized. Investigations revealed that these phones were part of the stolen parcels and thus were obtained through theft.
The suspects have since been questioned and released by the public prosecutor. Although they have been temporarily released while awaiting further legal proceedings, they remain suspects.
This type of fraud has serious consequences! For both the affected telecom providers and customers, as well as for trust in reliable delivery and identification systems. Do not be tempted by promises of quick money. It sounds tempting, but behind an apparently easy task (like picking up a parcel) often lurk criminal activities that can lead to a criminal record, debts, and problems with the law.
