Additionally, several drivers were fined for using a mobile phone while driving.

During the undermining control at Willemsplein, over fifty cars were checked. A hidden compartment was discovered in one vehicle containing narcotics and a large amount of cash. These items were seized. Other vehicles contained knives, which were also confiscated. Customs collected a total of €41,000 in tax debts and seized two vehicles.

Controls on undermining
The government regularly conducts controls to combat the undermining effects of (serious) crime. This includes seizing criminal assets, vehicles, and weapons, as well as combating welfare and tax fraud. Fixed and mobile ANPR cameras are used for these controls, and a Customs drug dog may be deployed. Police motorcyclists escort vehicles to the control location. Additionally, conspicuous and inconspicuous vehicles in and around the city monitor signs of undermining.

What is undermining
Undermining crime is the mixing of the underworld and the upper world. Criminals exploit citizens, entrepreneurs, services, institutions, and companies for their own gain and interest. Undermining undermines the rule of law and endangers the safety of society. Citizens and entrepreneurs sometimes come into contact (sometimes under duress) with undermining crime. Residents in their neighborhoods may also face intimidation, violence, as well as risks of fire due to cannabis plantations, drug labs, and environmental pollution caused by drug dumping.

Reporting helps
Reports and tips from citizens are indispensable in tackling crime. This information can be the start of an investigation or the missing puzzle piece to solve a case. Suspects are regularly arrested or drug labs dismantled thanks to reports from alert citizens. Do you suspect something is wrong in your area? Or have concrete signs pointing to crime? Report them to the police via 0900 - 8844. Prefer to report anonymously? You can do so via Meld Misdaad Anoniem, call 0800 - 7000.
