The demonstration was requested by Pegida and during the demonstration a Quran was burned. A counter-demonstration occurred, after which the municipality and police attempted to direct the counter-demonstrators to the designated area. A group mingled with the counter-demonstrators and began to use violence. To maintain safety and public order, the police escalated their response, including the use of riot police. The police and a police vehicle were pelted with objects. Ultimately, the demonstration had to be called off. During and after the demonstration, a total of seven suspects had been arrested by this morning.
