Officers saw a vehicle driving around 5:20 PM with an expired APK and decided to check the car. They signaled the car to stop, and the driver stopped near Edisonplein.
Arrest of the Driver
The driver got out and fled. One of the officers immediately initiated a pursuit. During the flight, the suspect threw a bicycle and a wooden advertising board at the officer, injuring him. The officer caught up with the suspect and was able to arrest him. He is a 31-year-old man from Breda. The suspect tested positive on a saliva test and is suspected of being under the influence of drugs. It also turns out he has a driving ban.
Arrest of the Passenger
There was also a passenger in the car, a 29-year-old man without a known residence. He cooperated well during the check, but officers found narcotics in his suitcase. He was also arrested.
Interrogation
Both men were transferred to the detention center for interrogation. The police are conducting further investigation into the discovered drugs and the incident involving violence against the officer.
Violence Against Police Officers (GTPA)
The police find aggression and violence against its employees or other helpers unacceptable. Police officers have a responsible role in society and must be able to perform their work without being hindered. With mutual respect. Aggression or violence, in any form, against employees is not tolerated. The police and judiciary apply the same approach: reports are always taken, perpetrators are prioritized by the Public Prosecution Service to be brought before the court, and a threefold higher sentence is demanded against the perpetrators.
