On March 7, 1995 – more than thirty years ago – the lifeless body of the 57-year-old resident was found in his home on Kijkduinstraat in Amsterdam. The initial police investigation did not lead to any arrests.
Cold Case Team
Recently, the Cold Case team of the Amsterdam police reassessed the case. It was previously established that there were similarities with another murder case from 1995. In that case, the body of a 66-year-old man was found in a hotel on Haarlemmerstraat on February 26, 1995. The now arrested 68-year-old woman was arrested on March 11, 1995, for that case. She was ultimately convicted of theft but acquitted of murder.
After it became clear that the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI) still had trace material from both cases available, the Public Prosecution Service requested DNA research from the NFI. It involved a comparative DNA study of the blood traces on the shoes seized in 1995 from the now 68-year-old suspect and the reference material from the victim found in the home on Kijkduinstraat. This research recently led to a DNA match. This match, together with witness statements and other DNA traces from the same suspect, ultimately led to the arrest of the 68-year-old woman.
Preliminary Detention
The woman was presented today to the examining magistrate. She was released for medical reasons. The woman remains a suspect.
More information about the cold case is not being shared at this time.
