On Sunday, the man entered the supermarket at Poldermeesterplein just after 11:00 AM. Threatening the store employee with a knife, he demanded money. He then left the store with the loot, and bystanders saw him escape on a bicycle. No one was injured, but the staff and customers were understandably shaken.
The emergency services arrived on the scene, and a Burgernet alert was issued to look out for the man. Thanks to tips that came in afterward, officers learned that the suspect had eventually gotten into a taxi. Unfortunately, they could not find him in the area. Until witnesses saw him again in the evening when he returned to pick up his abandoned bicycle. This allowed the police to finally arrest the 19-year-old man from Aalsmeer.
