No fewer than 21 campers, a jetski, a boat, and two shovels disappeared under suspicious circumstances from a storage facility on Carnival Saturday, March 1. The detectives faced a major challenge, as even the camera systems had been stolen.
Small device, big find
After extensive investigation, the police tracked down a suspect using a Bluetooth tracker. This small device was hidden in one of the stolen campers and can be used to track lost items, such as keys – or in this case, a camper.
The Bluetooth tracker led the detectives to a Belgian camper storage facility, and to a first suspect: a 62-year-old man from Oosterhout. In collaboration with Belgian police colleagues, the man was followed several times. On Tuesday afternoon, he was arrested and taken in for questioning. The suspect is still in custody.
