Around 9:30 PM, officers received a report of a conflict between the suspect and a minor boy. The suspect allegedly assaulted the boy, who did not require ambulance treatment. The suspect fled towards Mendelssohnstraat, and officers pursued him. Meanwhile, the suspect intimidated several bystanders. When the officers reached the suspect in the central lobby of an apartment building on the street, he was addressed and grabbed by an officer. The suspect immediately struck the officer hard, followed by more blows. The officer held onto the suspect but managed to free himself to aim his stun gun. Ultimately, it was not used, and the suspect was handcuffed and taken to the police cell.
The police officer was injured and received medical treatment. The 30-year-old suspect from Tilburg is suspected of aggravated assault and damaging parts of the uniform.
