‘I have common sense, no criminals on my land!’
Agricultural entrepreneurs participating in this collaboration visibly place a sign on their property with the text ‘I have common sense, no criminals on my land’. This clearly shows that:
- they will not turn a blind eye to criminal approaches, and;
- they are in regular contact with the police
The background of this initiative is that agricultural entrepreneurs in the rural area are sometimes approached by criminals asking if they can rent a shed, an empty barn, or land, with the aim of setting up, for example, a cannabis plantation or a drug production site. On the other hand, the background is that farmers indicate they have insufficient connection with the neighborhood officer. Agricultural entrepreneurs who hang up the sign are also happy to welcome the local police more often on their property.
First sign at agricultural entrepreneur in South Limburg
In the Heuvelland region of South Limburg, the LLTB, PVO Limburg, and the police are starting this initiative with agricultural entrepreneurs who want to actively contribute to a safe rural area. The farmers who hang the signs on their property have previously contacted the police, the LLTB, and PVO Limburg. The goal of this strengthened alliance between farmers and police is also to increase the willingness to report. Farmers are requested to report suspicious signals to the police, Report Crime Anonymously, or for example to the trust person safe rural area.
