On the morning of Sunday, July 21, 2024, around 5:00 AM, emergency services were urgently sent to Molenwiek in Mijdrecht. A motorcycle was reported to be on fire. When the fire brigade and police arrived at the scene, they found that both a motorcycle and a passenger car were involved. The fire brigade quickly brought the fire under control. Unfortunately, both vehicles were completely burned out and declared a total loss.

Investigation
The police could not rule out arson. In the past months, the police have been investigating the case. Multiple witnesses were interviewed and CCTV footage was reviewed. This investigation led to the identification of the 18-year-old man from Wilnis. He was arrested on February 19 on suspicion of arson. The police are continuing their investigation into the case.
