Currently, the police are investigating how many incidents there actually are. In July, at least four nights are known where people drove on the highway and ran into or over objects on the highway. No one was injured. However, material damage occurred to several vehicles.
Different nights, different locations
These incidents occurred on Sunday, July 6 to 7 (A50 near Klarenbeek), Tuesday, July 15 to Wednesday, July 16 (A50 near Klarenbeek), Friday, July 18 to Saturday, July 19 (A50 near Beekbergen), and Monday, July 21 to Tuesday, July 22 (A1 near Ugchelen). Last night, it involved chunks of concrete. Another report mentioned a large piece of stone or other debris.
The police are asking drivers who were on the road those nights and may have seen something to come forward. We also ask people who have taken (dashcam) footage to contact us. Other information or tips are also welcome. This does not have to be limited to these four nights. Report it via the tip form below or anonymously via Meld Misdaad Anoniem. Your details will not be disclosed to the police.
Multiple incidents under investigation
The police are investigating multiple incidents. It is more than striking that this is happening in a short period at similar locations. However, the police do not want to immediately assume a connection between all incidents. The police are considering multiple scenarios. More investigation is needed to draw conclusions. It is also not yet clear whether the objects were intentionally placed on the road in all cases.
In addition to asking for public assistance, the police are also conducting their own investigation. For example, they are conducting neighborhood investigations and paying extra attention to the locations at night. Behind the scenes, the police have also set up investigations. We cannot share details about this. The road inspectors from Rijkswaterstaat are also extra alert to suspicious situations. If you see a suspicious situation, call 112 immediately.
