The Dutch Water Authority received a report that a barge carrying 29 tons of diesel had run aground on a sandbank in the IJsselmeer near Lemmer. Colleagues from the National Expertise and Operations unit boarded to check the crew. The skipper was tested for alcohol and this test was positive. At the police station in Sneek, a breath analysis was subsequently performed, showing a result of 1145 ug/l. This is more than five times the allowed limit. The man received a boating ban and a fine for boating under the influence and poor seamanship. Additionally, his boating license was confiscated, and it was found that the logbook was not filled out correctly.
A replacement skipper boarded the barge. The ship was freed from the sandbank and was able to continue its route without further issues.
