On Saturday, December 22, just after midnight, an explosive was detonated at a house on Schubertlaan in Leiden. The following night, an explosive exploded at a business complex on Rijksstraatweg in Sassenheim. On the night of Monday, December 23, to Tuesday, December 24, an explosive was found at a house on Narcis in Voorhout. The EOD arrived on the scene to neutralize it. Due to these incidents, buildings in several municipalities were closed, and visible and invisible measures were taken. The police believe there is a connection between the cases and started an investigation. In that investigation, a second suspect has now been arrested, a 19-year-old man from Amstelveen. He is suspected of being involved in placing the explosive in Voorhout.
The suspect was brought before a examining magistrate on Thursday, March 13, who extended his pre-trial detention by two weeks. The underage suspect who was arrested at the end of December was suspended by the courts chamber on Tuesday, March 11, and may await the further proceedings in freedom. He remains a suspect in the case.
The investigation continues
The investigation into the explosions continues, with more arrests not being ruled out. The help of witnesses is still very welcome in the investigation.
