Earlier, on June 10, customs intercepted a package containing hemp buds. This package was also on its way to the same address in Tilburg. Following a tip that another suspicious package was on its way, an investigation was initiated. This time it concerned a package that was already at a branch of a courier service. Both packages were sent from Spain. It also turned out that a similar package had already been sent to this address in April.
Accepted delivery
The package was brought to the address in Tilburg and was accepted by the resident. The woman was then confronted by the police. The package contained dried hemp buds weighing over 5 kilos, with an estimated street value of around 17,000 euros. The police seized the hemp buds. The resident has been identified as a suspect and will be questioned later.
Drugs via post is illegal
The police warns against sending or receiving drugs via packages. This form of drug trafficking is illegal. Increasingly, we see that drugs – often hidden in packages from abroad – are sent to the Netherlands via regular courier services. However, packages are strictly monitored, traced, and intercepted. The chance of getting caught is high, and involved individuals risk prosecution and a criminal record. Therefore, do not let yourself be used or tempted to make your address available for such shipments. You are committing an offense and facing significant risks.
If you have information about drug trafficking or receive suspicious packages, report this to the police via 0900-8844 or anonymously via Meld Misdaad Anoniem (0800-7000).
