On May 25, around 02:00 AM, the police received a report of a burglary at a beach pavilion in Petten. There had been previous burglaries in the hospitality sector in the region, and the police were extra alert. The duty officer stated: “We want to catch the culprit red-handed.” All roads in the vicinity were checked. At 03:30 AM, during a check of a car, burglary tools and evidence linked to the burglary were found. The driver, a 38-year-old man from The Hague, was arrested. The suspect has been in custody since his arrest on suspicion of multiple burglaries in the coastal region of North and South Holland.
