Police officers caught a 20-year-old and a 22-year-old man from Emmeloord red-handed as they were selling drugs to a buyer. They were all arrested simultaneously. Subsequently, various narcotics were found in a storage box at the Jura, including several kilograms of hemp, hashish, and bags of white powder. These are still being examined by forensic investigators for exact quantity and composition. The owner of the box was also arrested for involvement in drug trafficking.
All suspects were released after interrogation. The buyer caught red-handed received a fine. The two main suspects from Emmeloord and the owner of the storage box are awaiting the handling of the case by the public prosecutor. They remain suspects in the case.
Why is drug trafficking undermining?
Drug production and trafficking have significant consequences for our society and are often the cause of undermining crime. The illegal income from drug activities is laundered into the legal economy. Young people and adults are approached to participate in organized drug crime. They are used as street dealers and drawn into a criminal path from which they can hardly escape. It often involves threats, extortion, corruption, violence, and sometimes even executions. Moreover, criminals often dump the chemical waste from drug production in our nature, which is harmful to both people and the environment. Criminals profit from millions in profits, while society bears the costs of the consequences and damage. The approach to undermining focuses on tackling drug criminals and sustainably disrupting criminal activities, networks, and structures.
