Taxis Inspected

On Saturday evening, a joint inspection of taxis took place in the city center of Breda. This was a collaboration between the municipality of Breda and the police. Several fines were issued and some cases are still under investigation.

From Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 8:00 PM until Sunday at 3:00 AM, specialists from the police and employees of the municipality conducted inspections on Slingerweg. This involved Supervision and Enforcement by the municipality of Breda and staff from the Social Investigation department. Police specialists focused on areas such as driver passes, safety, tariffs, and working and rest times.

Fines

Unfortunately, multiple fines had to be issued. Some specific violations were:

2x Tariff card not visible
1x Driver card not present in the systems
1x Carrying more passengers than allowed
1x Report to the tax authorities due to vehicle suspension 2x Unnecessary noise

Other traffic violations observed:

1x Article 8 alcohol
1x Article 8 drugs
1x Parking ban (taxi)
1x License suspension (122 km/h where 50 is allowed)
1x Expired MOT (6 months)
1x Speeding moped (20 km/h over limit)
1x Exceeding maximum speed by 40 km/h

Investigations

Investigations are also being conducted in several areas by social investigation. This includes working while on sick leave or receiving benefits.

And/or working without official registration and payment being made in a manner other than legally agreed upon.

Tips for taxi rides

When you get into a taxi, pay attention to several things: check if the taxi is recognizable (blue license plate, taxi information card, permit). Once inside, fasten your seatbelt immediately, check if the taximeter is on or a fixed price has been agreed upon, and clearly state your destination. Keep valuables with you and share your ride details via an app if you prefer.

Before you get in

Recognizability: Ensure it is an official taxi. Legal taxis have a blue license plate, a roof light with the company name and taxi number, and a permit visible under the window.
Price agreements: Ask about the price or method used (meter, fixed price) and compare rates if you have time.
Driver card: The driver must carry a driver card with a photo, which you can ask to check.

Once in the taxi

Seatbelt: Always wear your seatbelt.
Taximeter: Check if the taximeter is on and if the driver wants to use it.
Destination: Be clear about your destination and any special requests, and discuss the route with the driver.
Navigation: Consider opening a navigation app yourself to follow the ride for extra reassurance and control.

Valuables: Always keep your valuables with you and do not leave them behind.
Luggage: Check that you take all your belongings when you get out.
