During the control on Monday, January 12, several businesses were inspected regarding their operations. A traffic control was also part of the action day.

Illegal tobacco

During the inspection of a tobacco shop on Kruisstraat, a hidden compartment was found in the display case. There we found ten cartons of illegal cigarettes and dozens of vapes. It is suspected these were sold to minors. The NVWA is investigating further. During the inspection of two shisha lounges on Kruisstraat, customs found a total of about twenty kilos of illegal shisha tobacco. In a third business, a fully equipped poker room was discovered hidden.

Besides these findings, the municipality also identified several minor violations. The municipality is still considering which follow-up measures will be taken.

Traffic control

During the integrated traffic control, several violations were also detected. One drivers car was seized because he was under the influence of drugs. This was not the first time, so it was decided to seize the vehicle. Another mans fatbike was seized because it did not meet regulations. He was also arrested when he violently resisted the seizure. Finally, a rental car was seized because the driver could not show the correct documentation.

In total, 68 fines were issued for various traffic offenses such as driving without a license, not using hands-free, driving against traffic, and other matters.

Kruisstraat and Woenselse Markt

The area around Kruisstraat and Woenselse Markt in Eindhoven is diverse in cultures, lifestyles, and entrepreneurship. Efforts are being made to strengthen the positive aspects of this area. This is part of Pact Woensel Zuid. One of the ambitions is that people feel comfortable and safe at Woenselse Markt and Kruisstraat, both at home and on the street. This is done, for example, by reducing heavy traffic nuisance and litter and working on a broader range of shops.

At the same time, there has long been crime, nuisance, and public order disturbances at Woenselse Markt and Kruisstraat. In project Aurora, the municipality, police, public prosecutor, and tax authorities work together to tackle this persistent undermining. Not only this year but in the coming years. This is done, among other things, by detecting and combating criminal networks. The aim is to break the attraction this area undesirably has for criminals. They also want to prevent these criminals from relocating entirely to another area in the city. In this way, space is created for improving the area and contributing to a pleasant and safe neighborhood.
