On the afternoon of September 5, the police received a report shortly after 1:00 PM of a shooting incident in the polder area between Vlissingen and Ritthem. Officers found two victims. A 28-year-old man from Goes died at the scene. A 51-year-old man from Mexico was injured and taken to a hospital.
Due to the severity of the incident, a Major Investigation Team is investigating the case. After a thorough investigation, a first suspect was arrested on the evening of March 10. This 33-year-old man was staying in the house in Vlaardingen. The arrest was made by officers from the special intervention service. Following this, detectives searched the house, seizing digital data carriers and clothing.
The suspect has been taken to a detention center in the Zeeland-West-Brabant police unit for further investigation and questioning. He is under restrictions, meaning he can only maintain contact with his lawyer. Today, Thursday, March 13, the man was presented to a Judge Commissioner, who decided to keep him in custody longer. The police do not rule out further arrests.
On Tuesday evening, March 18, the police will again highlight this case in the investigation program Opsporing Verzocht.
