On Friday, July 11, 2025, at 21:00, the Operational Center received a report of a serious collision on the N286 between Poortvliet and Tholen. Emergency services rushed to the incident and found a seriously injured motorcyclist. The 21-year-old man from Tholen died from his injuries.

Arrest

The driver of the car, a 35-year-old man from Scherpenisse, was arrested because there may have been alcohol use. He was taken to the police station. There it was found that he indeed had too much to drink. Initial investigations indicate that this driver may have been speeding and took the turn where the collision occurred too sharply, causing him to end up on the other side of the road. For this reason, and because the investigation is still ongoing, the suspect remains detained. So far, there is no evidence of speeding from the deceased motorcyclist.
