Upon arrival, they saw a man walking who matched the description provided by the reporter. The officers approached him and shared their information with the man. The man, a 35-year-old resident of Steenbergen, was willing to be open with the officers and told them that he had hidden a slingshot in the bushes. The man walked to the bushes and handed the slingshot to the officers. He was then arrested and searched. During his search, the officers found four (presumably blank) cartridges.
Search warrant
Upon further questioning, the man revealed that he had also hidden a firearm in the same bushes. This statement also matched the report from the informant, who had said that the same man had been shooting with a firearm or something that resembled it.
The firearm (what type of weapon it is is under investigation) was also pulled from the bushes. As a result, the officers were going to conduct a search warrant at the mans home. There, another small 90 cartridges were seized.
The arrested suspect spent the night in a police cell. He may give a statement to detectives on Sunday.
Fake firearms prohibited
An investigation is still ongoing into the weapon of the 35-year-old suspect. It could very well be a fake weapon. If you want to know why fake firearms are prohibited in the Netherlands, you can check: https://www.politie.nl/onderwerpen/nepvuurwapens.html
