At around 10:15, an alert was received by emergency services that a person had fallen into the water at Suffolkweg in Weert. The fire department and police retrieved the person from the water. Resuscitation was initiated but was unsuccessful.

Shipping traffic was temporarily halted. A trauma helicopter was also called in.
The police are conducting further investigations on site.
