In March of this year, the Port Police started an investigation with Customs and the Royal Marechaussee into the removal of drugs from a container in the port area. It began with a burglary alarm and a suspicious situation. There was a suspicion that thieves had been on the premises. After thorough investigative work, including reviewing camera footage, the name of a possible suspect emerged.
Arrest
On September 10, 2025, a 19-year-old man from Rotterdam was already arrested on suspicion of removal and/or possession of drugs. He was released after questioning. However, the investigation continued, resulting in a second arrest on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. A 19-year-old man without a fixed residence in the Netherlands was arrested. He is also suspected of removal and/or possession of drugs. This suspect is still in custody.
What are thieves?
Thieves are individuals who, in various ways, often at the behest of a (criminal) organization, attempt to gain access to container terminal areas to remove narcotics, often cocaine, from sea containers shipped to the Netherlands and take them off the terminal premises.
