In the investigation into the disappearance of Tijn, we arrested two suspects on Thursday, June 12. The suspects, a 50-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman from Tijns immediate circle, are still in custody and will be presented to the examining magistrate later on Tuesday. The magistrate will determine whether there is sufficient ground to keep them in custody longer and to detain them. They are suspected of having removed the boy from the legal authority over him.
Where has Tijn been?
Tijns photo was made public at the beginning of March in the investigation into his whereabouts. On the day of the arrests, we launched a media offensive in the Netherlands and Belgium in the search for Tijn. Despite the fact that he has now been found, it is still unclear where Tijn has been all this time and who may have helped him to stay under the radar. We again urgently call on anyone with information to share it with us. Perhaps there are people who have seen him, helped him, or possibly even provided shelter. Please let us know, even anonymously, if you know more about this.
Remove his photo
Furthermore, we ask everyone who has shared Tijns photo on social media to remove it and to urge others to do the same. Sharing his photo was done thoughtfully, but it has a huge impact on his privacy. While you helped find him by sharing the photo, you are now mainly helping Tijn by removing it.
Investigation
Tijn left his residence on the evening of January 14 for an unknown destination, and it was quickly suspected that he had been removed from the legal authority over him. Since his disappearance, the investigation has been looking into his whereabouts and has deployed many available investigative resources. The investigation led to the suspicions against the arrested man and woman, but not directly to Tijns whereabouts. After the arrest, we searched the homes of both suspects. We also conducted investigations in other locations, in the Netherlands and Belgium. Several data carriers were seized during this process.
The investigation team still has many questions about what has happened to Tijn over the past months, where he has been, and who may have been involved. To avoid frustrating the investigation, but also out of respect for Tijns privacy, we will not share any further information about its status.
