The victim, an 82-year-old man from Venlo, was driving alone in his car on the A73 towards Nijmegen at around 09:50 AM. The circumstances of the accident are still under investigation.

The motorway was closed for a period of time to traffic. A trauma helicopter was also called, which landed on the motorway. 

The victim was treated on site in the ambulance, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries there.
By around 11:00 AM, one lane of the A73 was reopened.
