The police initially received a report of a shooting incident on Eikenstraat around 09:45 AM. A shot had been heard. Officers took safety measures and went to the scene. On Eikenstraat, they found someone with a head injury. This 54-year-old man from Apeldoorn was not injured as a result of a shooting incident.
Interpersonal Conflict and Theft
The police have begun an investigation. It now appears that there was likely an interpersonal conflict and possibly also a theft, during which threats were made with a firearm or a similar object. Three suspects then tried to take the victim to a car parked in the street. The 54-year-old man from Apeldoorn managed to escape but was injured in the process.
Arrests
The investigation eventually led the police to a car in Roptastate in Leeuwarden. Three occupants of this car have been arrested on suspicion of direct involvement in the incident on Eikenstraat. They are a 63-year-old man from Leeuwarden, a 57-year-old man from Leeuwarden, and a minor from Bolsward. A firearm was found in the vicinity of Roptastate. That weapon has been seized and is being examined. In a nearby house, two more individuals were arrested on suspicion of indirect involvement. These are men aged 57 and 19 from Harlingen and Bolsward.
The suspects have been transferred to a detention center and are being interrogated. The investigation into the circumstances and background of the incident is ongoing. More clarity is also needed regarding the precise involvement of the arrested individuals.
