Together with the Tax Authorities, Customs, and various police disciplines, a control location was set up in the parking lot. After a breathalyzer test, drivers were directed to one of six control lanes where personal data was checked and vehicles underwent a thorough inspection. Besides Customs and the Tax Authorities, many police disciplines were present at the control, including motorcyclists, a drug detection dog, the Automotive team with specialist knowledge of vehicle technical conditions, and an officer with expertise in taxi regulations. There was also the possibility to check the speed of mopeds and electric bikes (including fatbikes) and a special noise measurement was used to determine if an exhaust exceeded the maximum permitted noise level.
The police ANPR cameras scanned over 12,000 vehicles, of which dozens gave a hit leading those cars to the control point for an extensive check. One of these cars was involved in a ram-raid. In total, 115 motor vehicles were checked at the control location. All drivers were tested for alcohol use. No one was found driving under the influence of alcohol.
Throughout the day, dozens of fatbikes and scooters were checked for overall condition and tested on the dynamometer. Two scooters were caught speeding, resulting in a fine and a WOK notification at the RDW. About 25% of the fatbikes checked were not in order, either speeding or technically faulty (such as malfunctioning brakes or missing pedals).
Seven drivers were arrested because they had outstanding prison sentences, were under the influence of drugs, or were flagged to provide DNA. One driver tried to evade control by turning his car around in the queue for the alcohol test and driving away. However, three motorcyclists outsmarted him and directed him back to the control point. There it was revealed he was not only driving under the influence but also had an outstanding debt of 180,000 euros with the Tax Authorities.
In total, 52 fines were issued for offenses such as defective dim lights, not driving hands-free, an exhaust exceeding the allowed decibel level, and driving with an expired license. Many drivers also received warnings to fix the identified defects. If they are checked again and the issues are not resolved, they will receive a fine.
The Tax Authorities ANPR camera had over 50 hits. They seized 6 vehicles and collected nearly 40,000 euros in outstanding amounts.
