The threats are a reaction to an article and footage in the media about abuses at collection centers for cattle and calves. The farmer receives multiple serious threats daily, in which his family may also be targeted. The NVWA is currently conducting a criminal investigation into the behaviors shown in the footage.
In addition to the NVWAs criminal investigation, the police are also investigating the threats and their background. Multiple arrests are not excluded.
Freedom of expression
Freedom of expression is a fundamental right. The police attach great importance to this and ensure safety for all involved. However, freedom of expression is not a license for threats or committing criminal offenses. A threat can be punished with a maximum prison sentence of 3 years.
