We understand these concerns. The disturbing reports circulating can contribute to feelings of insecurity. However, it is important to distinguish between fact and rumor. Some reports shared online are incorrect or unconfirmed. Spreading such falsehoods can be punishable if it leads to public unrest. We strongly request to stop sharing incorrect information and rumors.

The police feel and understand the concerns of parents and residents. Everyone wants to safely send their child to school or sports activities. We are committed with all our effort and capacity to restore calm in the area and ensure safety. To achieve this, we utilize the measures taken by the mayors of Beverwijk and Heemskerk. Within designated safety risk areas and under an emergency decree, we have the authority to conduct preventive searches and order groups to disperse. More officers are also visibly present in the neighborhoods. Additionally, we deploy various specialized teams, including detectives and the drone team.

What can you do?

  • We ask parents to talk with their children. We also ask youths who are not currently attending school to refrain from gathering in groups and not to engage (online) with any of the rival groups.
  • Call 112 in emergencies. If in doubt, it is better to call too much than too little.
  • If you have information or footage that could help, but it is not an acute situation, please contact the police or through Meld Misdaad Anoniem. Your information is important to help end this unrest together.
