In an investigation into fraud by fake police officers, the police came across this suspect. He is linked to dozens of reports and is presumably involved as an instigator.
Dozens of Reports
The arrested man is suspected of multiple cases of fraud, including in Friesland. The police, from the basic team in Sneek, in collaboration with other disciplines and basic teams in various units, have started an investigation. This investigation has led to this suspect at a certain stage. The man is in custody and will be interrogated about his role and involvement in the fraud cases.
Previous Arrests and Convictions
Earlier, three individuals were arrested in connection with similar cases, who also posed as fake police officers. Two of them have since been sentenced to 30 months in prison, of which 10 months are conditional with a probation period of 3 years.
Dont Fall for It!
As police, we receive multiple reports daily of so-called fake police officers who are out to defraud people. This still happens in the northern provinces. We emphasize that a real officer never calls or comes to your door to secure jewelry or money. Hang up immediately if you receive a call from someone claiming to be from the police asking about your valuables. Call the police yourself at 0900-8844 to verify if you have indeed been contacted by a police officer. If an officer comes to your door to collect valuable items or money, call 112.
How to Recognize a Real Officer?
We know that there are fraudsters who wear police clothing. They may only be wearing a police polo shirt. A real officer wears their uniform fully: that is, with pants, high work shoes, and a belt with, for example, weapons and handcuffs. A real police officer can always identify themselves with a police identification badge. This is a card in the form of a drivers license with a name, personnel number, and photo. Plainclothes police officers must show this voluntarily and give you all the time to examine the proof carefully.
Always Report and/or File a Complaint!
Once again: if you dont trust it, call the police and dont hesitate to close the door and not let anyone in! If you have been attempted to be defrauded or have been defrauded, always report and/or file a complaint, as this gives us the opportunity to connect cases.
