In response to several serious reports, a disciplinary investigation was initiated in December by the Department of Safety, Integrity, and Complaints (VIK). They investigated signals of inappropriate behavior from nine police officers from the Central Netherlands unit, all working in Almere.
Outcome of the Investigation
The outcome of the investigations is that misconduct was established for five employees. The investigation revealed that these employees engaged in inappropriate and boundary-crossing behavior towards colleagues or citizens. They received a penalty ranging from a reprimand to conditional dismissal. Three employees will continue their careers in another team.
In other cases, no misconduct was established in the disciplinary investigation. This means that no disciplinary punishment will be imposed. However, the outcomes of all investigations led to both team-wide and individual interventions.
Yvonne Hondema, Chief of the Central Netherlands Unit: “The process and resolution contribute to a safer team. This is important, as a socially safe work environment is a foundation for good police work.”
Code of Conduct
Society expects police officers to set an example, both in uniform and outside of it. To assist employees in this, the police have a code of conduct. This is a guide for all police employees. The code of conduct outlines the core values of the police and describes what they mean in work and beyond. Want to know more about our code of conduct? Click here.
