During New Years Eve, several officers were sent around 00:15 to Maarsbergenstraat because a public order camera there had been disabled. When the officers arrived, they were quickly met with violence. They were attacked with heavy fireworks and stones, and violence was used against them. Stones were also thrown at a moving police van, breaking several windows of the van. Several officers were injured due to the violence used against them.

Several officers were unable to resume their duties. They filed reports of the violent crimes.

Violence against police officers (GTPA)

The police find aggression and violence against their employees or other emergency workers unacceptable. Police officers have a responsible role in society and must be able to do their work without hindrance. With mutual respect. Aggression or violence, in any form, against employees is not tolerated. Police and justice apply the same approach here: reports are always recorded, perpetrators are prioritized by the Public Prosecution Service to be brought before the court, and perpetrators face a penalty three times as high.
