The Maasboulevard and surroundings have always been popular with people coming to chill, especially Rhijnspoorkade and Plantagedreef. Many complaints have been received. Think of speeding, double parking, noise pollution from music and shouting youths, use of laughing gas, loitering, and littering, overall undesirable behavior.
This gathering creates an atmosphere that many residents find unpleasant and even unsafe. It can be seen in one of the many videos that residents make of the nuisance in their neighborhood. Honking cars, roaring exhausts, laughing gas tanks along the road, and litter.
The police are aware of the complaints from residents and have been visibly and invisibly present in the neighborhood since the nuisance became known. Officers are enforcing stricter and taking action where possible. We conduct traffic checks and inspect vehicles: issuing fines and sending them away immediately. For the long-term approach, we are working with the municipality on a structural solution.
The police try to close off the neighborhood every evening and inform and send away those present who do not live in the area. In the past period, multiple checks have been conducted. In total, around 350 to 400 cars have been sent away. Often, there are about 3 people in one car, which amounts to about 750 people.
Furthermore, at least 85 fines have been issued in the past period for, among other things, riding a moped on the bike path along Maasboulevard, the construction speed of mopeds, not wearing a seatbelt or an approved helmet on a motorcycle. But also for driving with excessively tinted windows, exceeding the speed limit, and loud exhausts.
Keep reporting nuisance
The most important thing is that people continue to report. From the police, we check the neighborhood multiple times. We point out peoples behavior and send those causing nuisance out of the neighborhood. Together with the municipality, this nuisance has our attention. In case of nuisance, call the police at 0900-8844 or anonymously at 0800-7000.
